OpenStreetMap

The free and editable map of the world

Runkeeper's maps are powered by MapBox and use OpenStreetMap, a mapping system built by a community of mappers that contribute and maintain data about roads, trails, cafés, railway stations, and much more, all over the world.

If you're here, chances are you are experiencing an issue with your Runkeeper map (sorry about that!). But all is not lost! By adding to or editing the OpenStreetMap you can help resolve your issue AND help out the community at the same time. Look at you go!

To edit OpenStreetMap, just do the following:

  1. Create an account on OpenStreetMap.org
  2. Select "iD editor" from the edit drop down and get started!

Why OpenStreetMap?

We chose OpenStreetMap because we believe in the mission, and wanted a mapping system that gave us the most opportunity and flexibility for an improved experience for our users. After giving several mapping options a try, we found that MapBox and OpenStreetMap are at the forefront of custom mapping technology, which will help us innovate more quickly when it comes to mapping solutions for our users and ultimately were best suited for the job.

You can learn more about what OSM is all about here:

What should I add or edit?

REAL and CURRENT information is the most useful including roads, buildings, and trails.

What if I don't have the time to add to or edit the map?

That's ok! You can add a note to the map for others to find and address your issue. Just go to osm.org and click "Add a note" in the bottom right corner.

What if I have questions about adding to or editing OpenStreetMap?

We'd love to help, but for questions regarding the OpenStreetMap site and editing experience, we recommend you head over to the OpenStreetMap help site!
