I missed last night's workout because of the board meeting so I swam alone this morning. It's harder because I'm not as motivated. Also noticed that it does take me at least 400-500 m before my arms and shoulders get warmed up, which makes a difference. On another note, I haven't been to this pool in months. They changed the lane configuration (kinda threw me off). It's still a lovely pool, very clean, with very disciplined swimmers in the other lanes -- even though there's a few swimmers who use snorkels which I think is cheating.

wella  My first Bay to Breakers. I had never seen so many naked guys before in my life. One guy was particularly disturbing. He was going at our pace and he had the stupidest tattoos on his ass. Worse, he turned around at one point and we all saw his pierced schlong, as Samir called it. I ran the first mile, then waited for Lulu and Samir to catch up, then we walked. Then Lulu and I ran mile 4, walked, then ran from mile 6 to the finish. I only had a banana for breakfast (bad idea) and no fuel during the run, unless you count a piece of bubble gum and 2 oz. of water mixed with Ola Loa. My legs felt fatigued for the final stretch and I had no gas in me to sprint to the finish. So this is how I get to feel sore these days. I have to work out for 2 hours for 2 consecutive days.

wella  During the last mile of the bike portion of this brick, I decided to do the 5-mile run after all. I mean, Bay to Breakers is not going to be much of a run if I'm going with friends I haven't seen in a long time. It was already mid-morning and hot. I had my visor on, thank goodness. I missed the 2.5 mile mark for the turnaround so I ended up overshooting. Saw the Olympic distance ladies on my way back. I had 2 songs in my head: Pumped Up Kicks ("better run, better run" helped) and the Calvin Harris song (the beat of the song helped). These were in my head only.
wella  Kinda funny to look at the map. The run felt like a straight out and back. But it turns out to be shaped like a horseshoe.

wella  Beautiful ride! Except for the parts going through downtown areas and biking next to traffic. Ana gave me a great tip about putting my heels down. It made my left knee hurt for a minute or two, then I was over it. I felt comfortable in my clips and shoes on the rolling course. At one point, a traffic light turned yellow and I yelled, "Stopping!" but Kyle was behind me and not ready to stop. So he passed me and I decided to go after him. No cars in the intersection. But that was bad form and I have to be more conscientious about how I'm going to react at stoplights.
