Week 2, Day 13 of Beginner 5K
This was supposed to be a run/walk, but I am sore from carpet cleaning and Sam was begging to go for a walk, so I decided to make it a brisk walk instead. About 1/3 of the way in I started getting really bad shin splints, so I stopped to stretch and then slowed down. It was a pleasant walk after that. Sammy is exhausted, and I'm pretty worn out too. I walked at least a mile earlier today putting up fliers for one of my summer classes on campus.

The cooler weather was nice. My lower back is somewhat sore from carrying boxes and furniture around (still moving into the apartment in Bloomington), but the run wasn't bad.

Alisa  I didn't have any "extra" on my Garmin, so apparently RunKeeper calculations are 12 seconds off from those of the Garmin, which says I went 1.48 miles with an average pace of 16:55 min/mi.

Week 2, Day 9 of Beginner 5K
This was a fairly pleasant run/walk, although I was pretty exhausted by the end. I wore knee braces because my knees have not yet recovered from Saturday's super-walk. My knees feel fine now, so that was probably a good idea.

Week 1, Day 7 of Beginner 5K
This walk ended up being considerably longer than it was supposed to be. I needed to go to the Post Office, so I started in that direction, but it wasn't very far, so then I decided to see how long it would take to walk to my church. That took a little longer than expected (due largely to road construction traffic, which is almost as bad to walk through as it is to drive through), so I took a route home that I thought would be faster. It was certainly more pleasant, but it was also longer. I used my Garmin this time, which is so much more convenient than RK on my phone.

Another nice walk with Sam. I think I will take him out on the next walk as well, but after that I will be doing more running than walking, and he isn't a fan of accompanying me on runs.

Week 1, Day 3 of Beginner 5K
I started off alternating jogging really slowly and walking. But as I got more warmed up I was feeling pretty good, so I started running faster during the "steady" intervals. It may be almost a year since the last time I went for a run, but I'm still in better shape now than I was when I started running before.

I took Sam with me tonight since I was just walking. We explored the trail behind my apartment complex. It is shorter than I had hoped, but one end opens at a park in a residential area, so I'll probably head that way in the future.

My 6-month running streak that started at the beginning of last year ended when we moved to TN in mid-summer. In addition to the heat, I couldn't just head out of my door for a run because we live on a road that would be a death-trap for pedestrians. However, we do have a field in our backyard, so today I tried walking small laps out there. Minus the random tree roots and mole hills, it isn't bad. Today I just went for a walk with my dog--the field is fenced-in, so Sammy got to run free. I might try running out there after I walk myself into slightly better shape.
