RunKeeper Pro 2.0 is Now Live! (and other RK news)

We have some quick news we wanted to share with you. . .

RunKeeper Pro 2.0 is Now Live

It’s been almost 1.5 years since we launched the first RunKeeper application.  During that time, we learned a lot about what runners want when it comes to your data.  RunKeeper Pro 2.0 has the same core functionality, but has been fundamentally redesigned so all of the data that you care about most (based on your feedback over many months) is at your fingertips during your activity!

Key changes:

  • both current and average pace/speed on the main tracking screen
  • improved photo taking
  • improved layout and data  access
  • swiping between screens
  • run stats on the map screen
  • easier to access splits and training workout display
  • calories burned in-app as well as the website
  • new start screen
  • easier to define pre-set settings
  • easier to toggle between GPS mode and manual activity input

You can get this new application here.

We believe you will find it to be a much more intuitive user experience.  Once you try it, let us know what you think!  In addition to the improved in-app experience, the new design also makes room for significiant additional functionality, which we plan to add to the application in the coming months.  Stay tuned!

12/12/09 Addendum: If you have purchased RunKeeper Pro in the past, this is a free upgrade and you will not be charged again.

LeWeb Recap

We returned tonight from a great few days in Paris at LeWeb.  We had fun in the startup competition (see minute 27:54 for the RunKeeper presentation), and although we didn’t win, we got a great shout-out on the main stage from the judges and got a lot of great visbility and exposure.  Thanks to all of you who gave us the terrific virtual support! It was a fantastic few days in Paris, and we can’t wait to come back next year.

Mashable Update

And finally, just a reminder that there are only 2 more days left of Mashable voting—Saturday and Sunday!  To those that have been doing such a terrific job supporting us with this—THANK YOU!  Cast your final votes for the Open Web Awards here.

That’s all for now!

    Awesome! Love your products!

  2. Alexander Millar says:

Glad to hear Paris was helpful! I’m looking forward to using 2.0

  3. Juuro says:

How can I resume the actual tracking? Before the update it was possible to resume tracking when I closed the app while tracking and restartet it. Now there is no resume-button.

Thanks for the redesign. It’s way better to use now. But the resume-function is important (to me)!

  4. admin says:

Were you testing indoors? As long as you have started your activity and at least one GPS point has been tracked, the pause/resume functions works like it always has.

Great job fellas! I really like the new update and one of my biggest grips (no calories figure) has been resolved.

    There is one thing though:

The voice updates. I think this feature would be universally LOVED by everyone. Well, can’t you guys simply implement an option so that if your rate falls/exceeds a certain threshold you get told? Instead of just hearing your rate/time…. you also get updates like… “you’re going too slow, speed up” Kind of like having your own coach guiding you. This would be an amazing feature…. I’m sure people would absolutely love it. Would love to know what you guys think…

Great job and keep up the great work!

This is on our radar, and we agree, it would be really cool! Many exciting updates to come, and we’ll share more as they get closer to being reality. Keep the feedback coming!

  7. Sean says:

I love the new user interface – it’s much quicker to set a training type and playlist, without jumping around to different screens. The running data screen is easier to read also.

  8. nu_D says:

Out of curiosity, when you say on your radar… are we talking about in another 1.5 years when version 3.0 is released or in 1.5 months when version 2.1 is released?

    Thanks. :)

  9. linda says:

I certainly appreciate the swipe feature but I can’t scroll through my “time versus velocity” graphs any more…

On top of that, every data point seems to be “0 mph;” so the graph itself doesn’t look.

Can I go back to version 1? my favorite part was looking at the envelope of the graph and version 2 seems broken.

  10. admin says:

Linda, is this for new activities or historic ones? You should try a new activity, I think you will find it works great.

If you still have issues, email us at support(at)runkeeper.com, we would be glad to help out!

  11. Linda says:

Jason, it was my historic data; Since it’s winter, I don’t ride my bike ride that much; thus– to demo run keeper to my friends, I was using historical data.

  12. Steve says:

On the subject of historical data, would it be possible to have the application sync up with the data stored on the web server?

Sometimes when I have GPS co-ordinates that are wrong, I correct them using the web interface which will correct the average speed and total distance etc. but the activity on the iPhone app still remains incorrect.

It would also allow people to upgrade from free to pro and still have all their previous activities visible in the app!

  14. Dee says:

The 2.0 version does not let me check my splits or show the speeds on the graph from within the app directly after the run. Checking during the run would slow me down and going to the website a takes too long. Can we have these feature returned for the next update.

Also it would be good if we could select a count down timer before the activity starts. It normally a minute to pack away my phone and begin cycling/running.

I know I can check my splits during my run but that doesn’t do me much good since I have to slow down my run to check it plus I can listen to my splits times during the run via the audio. It would be nice to get this feature back with the next version of RK pro or maybe integrate the splits with the run history on the iphone so I don’t have to log into the website using the iphone/safari browser, which can be a little annoying trying to type in my username/email address and password right after a workout. Also, it would allow people to analyze their workout progress at times when they have a poor signal or no internet access.
Otherwise I love the new interface on RK 2.0.

  15. Mike says:

    Hi,

Very happy with new version, just a few recommendations. A calendar of all activity would be great where you can see when you have had sessions and what distance you have covered. You would then be able to drill down from the calendar view.

Also under Activity history you used to have a quick view of the distance covered. This is no longer there but really liked having a quick view instead of going back into the activity to see.

    Hi Jason,

so to me it looks like runkeeper actually won the mashable-award:
    http://mashable.com/2009/12/16/open-web-awards-2009-50-winners/
Wouldn´t this be worth some mentioning?

    Keep up the good work,
    S.

    Hi Jason,

Great work on the new version, the new UI looks and feels great !!! My only issue is the activity list seems to slow down when there are heaps of activities, though the are not that easy to remove – it would be great if you implimented something akin to the Mail / SMS UI where you can delete activities inline wthout opening them up (once you have the full activity details back that is)…

Once again, great work – keep it up…

    thanks
    Pete

  19. Ben Southall says:

As I’m training for ultramarathons I need to be doing runs over around three to four hours. The battery life on the iphone using Runkeeper drains so quickly as the screen light is on all the time -do you think a future upgrade may take this into account and reduce it to say 10% power?
    Ben

  20. admin says:

    Ben,
Try using the top lock to sleep the screen and turning 3G off. On a full charge, you should get 5 hours+ of battery life if you follow these tips.
